Campaigns Advocacy and Policy Advisor

Salary: Circa £33,200 per annum, pro rata which equates to £19,920
Location: Belfast
Contract/Hours: Permanent, part-time (working 21 hours a week)

A bit about the role
We have a unique opportunity to join our team in Northern Ireland, reporting directly to the National Director, to influence and make a huge impact personally and to the lives of children and young people.
You'll be working alongside the National Director and the Northern Ireland Leadership Team on the political influencing work of Action for Children in Northern Ireland.
The role is for 21 hours a week. The role is office based but there could be some option for home working on occasion.


How you'll help to create brighter futures
  • Through this role you'll significantly improve young people's lives with your senior management colleagues to
  • Achieving Action for Children's political influencing objectives through a combination of advocacy, campaigning and public affairs that will seek to influence key political figures in Northern Ireland and the UK.
  • Collaborating with our service users i.e. children, young people and families to ensure that our work is informed and led by people affected by the issues we seek to address.
  • Working closely with our Leadership Team to push forward our agenda and to develop a robust evidence base for Northern Irish policy calls.
  • Working in partnership with other children's organisations, where appropriate, to add our voice to the wider debate on issues that are important to us.
  • Building relationships on a grass roots level with our services across Northern Ireland so that the children, families and young people who use them, and the staff who run them, have chances to feed directly into our work as well as cultivating relationships with politicians, officials and decision makers at all levels to advance our influencing priorities.

Let's talk about you
Ideally you’ll:
  • Be committed to making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people.
  • Have experience of working directly with key government and community stakeholders. Effective communication and influencing skills, with a strong knowledge of Northern Ireland's political policy making processes, local authority and health structures.
  • Be analytical, meticulous with your organisation skills and with the ability to respond quickly to the demands of fast-moving political and media agendas.
