About the role
The baggage environment is a busy and complex area with a high level of computer controlled equipment. The baggage controller will ensure that the hold baggage system maintains 100% baggage screening in line with DFT standards, the baggage controller is critical in ensuring the effective operation of the airport baggage system.
The role of the baggage control assistant is to make decisions and act on operational issues for Departures and Arrivals Baggage Systems to ensure the continuity of the baggage operation. This position involves working on a rostered shift basis and requires flexibility to support the operation. You can find out more about the team here
About the Recruitment Process
For the successful candidate, this will be a one stage interview process, with our Baggage Operations Manager and Head of Business Transformation and EASL. They will discuss your experience, motivations in applying for the role and some competency based questions.

What you'll be doing
- Ensure compliance with company health, safety and environmental policies, taking personal responsibility for employing safe and secure working practices to minimise risk to self, work colleagues and stakeholders. Participate in risk assessments and other safety working groups as requested.
- Ensure the continuous flow of baggage from check in to baggage handling agents through the departures baggage handling system by monitoring various Management Information Screens, reacting to any faults, clearing bag jams, and other baggage and system related faults.
- To carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance on conveyors and other baggage hall systems and report any faults to Engineers via 5555 fault line.
- Ensure all daily checks are carried out on operational equipment and monitoring systems before scheduled check in.
- Communicate effectively with all airport stakeholders to ensure all faults are accurately recorded and attended by the correct teams.
