Upstream Accountant – Family Office Oil & Gas Industry
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Upstream Accountant. This position will focus on managing the financial operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of industry-specific accounting practices and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee all financial and accounting activities related to upstream operations, including exploration, drilling, and production costs.
Track and manage capital expenditures and operating expenses associated with exploration and production projects.
Ensure accurate recording of financial data in line with IFRS, GAAP, and other relevant accounting standards.
Prepare financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses for upstream activities.
Work closely with technical and operations teams to monitor project costs, forecasts, and budgets.
Audits and provide accurate financial data related to upstream operations for both internal and external audits.
Maintain compliance with local regulatory requirements and taxation laws in the oil and gas sector.
Support joint venture accounting and prepare financial reports for partners in upstream operations.
Perform financial analysis to support decision-making in capital projects, asset acquisitions, and divestitures.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree or CPA is a plus).
5 years of experience in accounting, with specific expertise in the oil and gas industry, especially in upstream operations.
Strong understanding of upstream accounting processes, including capital expenditures, operational costs, and revenue recognition.
Solid knowledge of IFRS and/or GAAP.
Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) used in the oil and gas sector.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Skills:
Familiarity with the financial aspects of Production Sharing Agreements (PSAs) and Joint Venture agreements.
Knowledge of oil and gas taxation, regulatory compliance, and reporting standards.
Strong financial modeling and forecasting skills.
Experience with managing large capital projects and asset acquisitions.
Flexible working environment with potential for travel to project sites.
