The Senior Planner/Scheduler will be responsible for scheduling activities on a specific project, including analysis and reporting on progress in a project, ensuring that all milestones are achieved on time and in budget. Contribute to problem solving, working closely with all Functional / Stream Leads and service providers. This role requires advanced expertise in project scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management, as well as strong leadership and analytical skills. Duties & Responsibilities
Establish and maintain an effective scheduling function by setting up structures, standards, processes and tools that will enable achievement of scheduling objectives
• Project Scheduling: Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules using industry-standard software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project). Compile the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for a project, aligned to project scope and contracting approach . Develop baseline project schedules and an integrated project schedule in consultation with relevant Leads. Conduct project critical path analysis. Ensure schedules are accurate and reflect project requirements and constraints.
Resource Management: Integrate resourcing plans form projects with the project schedule Allocate resources effectively, ensuring that manpower, equipment, and materials are available as needed. Monitor resource utilization and adjust schedules as required.
Progress Tracking: Track project progress and performance against the baseline schedule. Identify and address any deviations or delays, and implement corrective actions as necessary. Ensure project schedule reporting as required by program governance activities and weekly updates and reports are completed for all workstreams
• Risk Management: Identify potential scheduling risks and develop mitigation strategies. Analyse the impact of changes and delays on the overall project timeline.
Reporting: Prepare and present detailed schedule reports to project stakeholders. Provide regular updates on progress, critical path activities, and potential issues. Ensure project schedule reporting as required by program governance activities and weekly updates and reports are completed for all workstreams.
• Management of change: Coordinate re-baselining of the project where necessary. Assess and provide inputs regarding the schedule impact of scope changes and change requests.
Coordination: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure alignment of schedules with project goals and deliverables. Facilitate communication and coordination between different project teams.
Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of schedule changes, progress reports, and project performance. Ensure all records are accurate and up-to-date.
Desired Experience & Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. A scheduling qualification e.g. Pragma’s Maintenance Scheduler NQF 5. A PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent certification is a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in project planning and scheduling, with a focus on mining or large-scale construction projects.
Skills:
Proficiency in scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Knowledge of mining industry practices and regulations is highly desirable.
Additional Requirements:
Ability to travel to project sites as required.
Strong understanding of project management principles and practices.
Experience in managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
