Head Guide: Kuzuko Private Game Reserve
Kuzuko Private Game Reserve is a 14,500-hectare private Big Five game reserve with a Five-Star bush lodge in the Greater Addo area of the Eastern Cape. Kuzuko Lodge is the only lodge on the reserve offering guests an unrushed wilderness experience and making it a great place to guide. Kuzuko was established as a social enterprise with the aim of creating jobs in an area of high unemployment whilst also rewilding and restoring the land. Kuzuko is seeking to appoint a Head Guide to lead the game guide team with a focus on mentoring and developing junior guides. A key part of Kuzuko’s ethos is creating opportunities for those in our local community to grow and develop and we are seeking a candidate who shares this passion.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Minimum FGSA Level 2
- Pr-DP
- In date First Aid qualification
- Minimum five years guiding experience
- Fluent in English
- Experience managing a team
- Excellent knowledge of local flora and fauna
- Strong people skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- A positive working attitude
- A passion for nature and sharing it with guests
- Experience operating in a 5* establishment
DESIRED CRITERIA
- Experience of mentoring and training junior staff members
- Trails Guide qualification
- Strong understanding of relevant conservation issues
- Experience working in conservation
- Mechanical skills
- Ability to speak a second language
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Managing all game department activities, general and guest related
- Oversee fleet management for game viewer fleet
- Ensuring a high quality, consistent, safe and five-star game viewing experience for the guests
- Managing employees in the game department covering all personnel related issues
- Training and mentoring junior guides, trainee guides and interns
- Ensuring department is fully compliant with all legal and health and safety requirements
- Implementing all relevant SOP’s and reviewing SOP’s from time to time
- Ensuring vehicles and staff are well presented and guest ready as and when required
- Working closely with other departments to ensure the best possible guest experience
- Liaising with the reserve management team on conservation issues
- Assisting on the reserve as and when required
- Manage department budget and compile monthly reports for the board
