Under the direction of the Section Engineer, the Civil Engineering Technician is in charge of engineering work that requires complex multidisciplinary planning, goes beyond the bounds of what is currently possible, and adapts plans to the circumstances while always keeping in mind the original requirements and the rationale behind them. supporting Project Managers with the planning, execution, and administration of a range of projects, site meetings, and daily management of general laborers on the job site. Reporting problems to the Section Engineer.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 and National Diploma or N6 in Civil Engineering
Certificate in project management will be an advantage.
1 year’s applicable post graduate experience
4 years Civil Construction experience
Project Management, Water conservation and demand management
Primary Duties
Assisting with the evaluation of plans and projects and selecting the best engineering techniques to apply to handle issues of a variety and complexity.
To co-ordinate teamwork and project management tasks for projects of significant size
Make, or contribute to, decisions relating to project feasibility studies, and the scheduling of projects and resources to achieve the goals of Rand Water.
Role player in project meetings, progress meetings, and contractor meetings and may have the sole responsibility for progress and other report writing.
Take responsibility for technical staff on own projects.
Works within the generally provided Rand Water engineering guidelines, based on an understanding of the company and its overall goals, but understands the underlying spirit of these standards and can adapt them to fit specific needs.
The technician makes responsible decisions on matters assigned, including the establishment of professional engineering standards and procedures.
Work is carried out within broad guidelines requiring conformity with overall objectives, relative priorities, and necessary cooperation with other units.
Outlines and assigns work, reviews it for technical accuracy and adequacy, and may plan, direct, coordinate and supervise the work of other professional and technical staff.

Computer competent in Project Management software (Advanced Level of SAP Project Systems, Enterprise Project Management Tools, and MS Excel)
