Key purpose of the role
The key purpose of this role is to create and direct a weekday live radio show, ensuring its smooth operation and continuous improvement
Key outputs/accountability
The creation and direction of a weekday live and/or simulcast radio show as well as post-program follow up including the following:
Attending feedback/planning meetings.
Effective call-screening techniques.
Generating interview ideas for the show as well as monitoring story trends and following up on developing news.
Setting up guests, script writing, finalizing running order and forward planning.
Conducting required research.
Consulting and liaise with presenter and junior co-producer (if one works on the show) and related stakeholders including EWN
Identifying calls and Whats Apps to the show that could be used to supplement online content
Monitoring social media for feedback on show topics and ideas.
Attend final briefing with host before show goes to air
Meet to de-brief after the show, when required.
Contribute to growth of Primedia+ by:
Alerting digital content team to stand-out on-air moments
Assisting in meeting the station’s regulatory obligations by:
Complying with the programming strategy of the Station and other legal requirements for broadcasting.
Ensuring his/her respective show is doing the required number of CSI interviews and flagging those accordingly on the show planner
Completing show-related administration including:
Liaising with programming coordinator regarding the processing of payments/invoices for contributors.
When appropriate, assist with listener correspondence (respond to listeners who are asking for links to audio, guest and book names, etc…)
Ensure prize-winners’ details are captured correctly & timeously
Improve inter-departmental communication by
Flagging possible commercial opportunities with the commercial manager without compromising editorial independent of the station
Educational qualifications
Journalism- or media-related diploma or degree is preferable, but any tertiary qualification is helpful, especially if candidate displays natural curiosity about the world and a passion for news and current affairs
Required knowledge and experience
Minimum three years’ experience in radio- or a related field including working as a researcher and/or producer and/or journalist and/or editor
Good general knowledge
Required skills
Basic computer literacy including word processing, internet, e-mail and other broadcast programmes such as phonebox, and SMS line.
Solid organizational skills.
Ability to identify interesting topics for both P1 and P2 audience
Some contacts (political, academic, social etc.)

Ability to work under pressure.

Ability to remain calm in crisis situations.
Ability to think and problem-solve creatively when it comes to finding own/unique content on slow news days
