Introduction: Wild Earth Production is a dynamic and fast-growing company and the leader in interactive LIVE wildlife broadcasting, both on the internet and on more traditional media like television. Our LIVE broadcasts have been shown on Nat Geo Wild in the USA and our channel is distributed globally; online as well on television networks. In South Africa, some of our programs are carried on Open View on the People’s Planet channel. We are urgently looking to strengthen our technical support team. As part of this effort we are looking for a Broadcast and IT systems support technician to start as soon as possible. This is a permanent position, subject to successful completion of a 3 months’ probation period. We are looking for a candidate who can start immediately. As a Broadcast and IT systems Support Technician, working in our Mission Control Room in Rivonia, you will be responsible for monitoring our broadcasts and related systems, ensuring that they are operational and fully functional. You will ensure that our live broadcasts adhere to the highest technical standards and will support the production team and remote tech and camera operations (camops) teams before, during, and after live broadcasts. You will rely on quick thinking, creativity and good planning to rapidly identify, log, and resolve any technical issues. You're willing to rapidly learn new systems and tools and are able to quickly adjust to change. This is a shift-based position. Required skills:

Your main areas of responsibility will be:
Ensure a technically smooth live show during shift
Constant monitoring of our channel feed’s distribution
Monitoring our channel at the various destinations on the provided tools
Active response to any technical issues that may be experienced as the first line support
Escalation of the tech issue to the Tech Team Leader if unable to resolve
Logging of ALL tech issues experienced
Daily reporting of shift activities and completion of handover reports for next member on shift.
Collaboration with the rest of the team in resolving tech issues and sharing of ideas to enhance the team’s contribution to the organisation
Ensure upkeep of equipment and materials inventory
Do required equipment maintenance - Maintain system monitoring and development
Attend daily and weekly meetings when on shift on the day
Troubleshooting and quickly resolving of technical problems
Job requirements:
A technical degree or diploma in IT or engineering fields, and/or relevant work experience
Experience with broadcast equipment such as video production switchers, video routers and encoders will be advantageous.
Knowledge of video encoding codecs and streaming protocols will be advantageous.
Familiarity with video, audio, and network cabling and connectors
Strong knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, IP networking
Linux skills, experience with bash and Python scripting would be a huge advantage
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Quick learner, strong team player, ability to work under pressure
Driven, constructive and self-motivated attitude
Strong communication skills, fluent in both written and spoken English
Understanding of the technologies underlying broadcast and IT systems
Driver’s license - Required
