Job Summary: The Procurement Engineer will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing materials, components, and services for the production of wood furniture, joinery, and fit-out projects. This role includes technical duties such as reviewing drawings, extracting materials, and collaborating with design and production teams to ensure optimal procurement processes. Key Responsibilities:
Supplier Management:
Identify and evaluate potential suppliers
Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliability and quality.
Sourcing and Purchasing:
Analyse project requirements to determine material specifications and quantities.
Prepare and issue Requests for Quotation (RFQs) and Requests for Proposal (RFPs).
Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
Technical Review:
Review engineering and architectural drawings to extract material requirements and specifications.
Collaborate with projects team to understand material needs.
Ensure that materials procured align with the project requirements.
Quality Assurance:
Establish and enforce quality standards for procured materials.
Collaborate with production and quality control teams to ensure materials meet specifications.
Address quality issues with suppliers and implement corrective actions as needed.
Inventory Management:
Maintain inventory levels to support production schedules.
Coordinate with the production team to forecast material needs based on project timelines.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of procurement activities, including purchase orders and contracts.
Generate reports on supplier performance, and inventory levels.
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures related to procurement.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with project managers, design teams, and production staff to align procurement activities with project goals.
Provide input on material selection and design considerations based on availability and cost.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or any related field.
Proven experience in procurement or supply chain roles, preferably in the woodworking industry.
Strong understanding of technical drawings and material specifications.
Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to manage supplier relationships.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Knowledge of woodworking materials, manufacturing processes, and quality standards.
Work Environment:
Factory-based with visits to suppliers, production facilities and sites.
