Purpose of the position
The Manager, Laboratory System, will be responsible for leading the technical delivery of e HA’s laboratory system strengthening initiatives. This includes research, assessment, and contribution to new business development opportunities. S/he will also facilitate the formulation of research studies, prepare Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, write research grant proposals, and prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals. The Manager Laboratory System acts in accordance with organizational and project specific standard operating procedures (SOPs), guidelines, budgets, timelines, and contracts and assists with managing project budgets and tracking against milestones. The individual may lead and/or manage a partial or full project team(s).

Provides e Health Africa Senior Management and Program Management Team with strategic guidance on infectious disease epidemiology and associated laboratory testing.
Support current laboratory priorities and design roadmap for laboratory systems, strengthening investments with support from the Program Manager
Lead assessments of laboratory capacity to identify gaps and actions required for laboratory systems strengthening in collaboration with partners.
Provide both strategic and technical direction for all laboratory initiatives, overseeing its development and assuming responsibility for high-quality delivery.
Build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the laboratory space, including with the WHO AFRO, Ministry of Health, subnational level laboratories, and public health partners.
Contribute to initiatives towards laboratory systems digitalization
Identifies and assists in the preparation of research grant proposals, RFIs, clinical study protocols, IRB applications, and capacity statements.
Data collection and management include creating SOPs for data collection, creating databases, overseeing data collection in the field, and conducting data monitoring. Analyzing data, using standard epidemiological methods.
Assists with identification and selection of vendors for LSS projects and provides quality assurance oversight.
Active participation in laboratory technical working groups and other stakeholder meetings
May frequently travel between company work-sites. Some international travel may be required.

Who you are
B.Sc in Medical Laboratory Science or in a related field. Relevant professional certification would be an added advantage
Minimum of 10 years relevant experience, at least 2 years in a managerial role; NGO experience is an added advantage
Adherence to defined policies and procedures, monitor and evaluate direct reports.
Exposure to healthcare and/or health systems strengthening and/or experience working on public health projects
Excellent analytical (qualitative and quantitative) skills and communication (written and verbal) skills, including the ability to prepare and present compelling presentations and program planning and memo documents
Grant and Proposal writing skills
Proficiency with Word, Excel, and Power Point
Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills with creative thinking capabilities
Ability to work independently on complex projects and proactively manage projects with minimal supervision
High level of confidentiality and knowledge of research ethics
Strong leadership skills, including good problem-solving skills and the ability to inspire confidence in teams.
Excellent written and verbal communications, with a strong aptitude for succinctly presenting thoughts and ideas to senior internal and external stakeholders.
Must have the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Action-oriented and resilient in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Requirement — Laboratory and diagnostics-related experience, either in a programmatic or clinical setting — Knowledge and experience in supporting laboratory systems and networks — Familiarity with laboratory support systems (e.g. supply chain management, lab information system, and quality assurance program) — Project management experience will be considered an advantage — Experience working in resource-limited settings
Certifications and Licenses
A project Management (PRINCE2 or PMI) certification is preferred
A Medical Laboratory Science Licence is preferred
