Make a difference in the lives of rangatahi – become a Youth Worker for Youth Services at YMCA Taranaki. We are looking for a fixed-term full time Youth Worker in our Youth Development team for a six month period, from approximately October 2024 to March 2025. This exciting opportunity is for someone who is rangatahi focussed with a passion for making a difference and has flexibility to work weekends and evening hours if required. We are currently seeking applications for mentoring rangatahi referred to YMCA Taranaki through our programmes and the successful person will:- · Be dedicated to mentoring and working one on one with rangatahi and engaging family/whanau to assist them achieve their identified goals. · See potential in rangatahi/youth and have an impact on the wellbeing of young people. · Be supportive of young people who have complex behavioural needs. · Committed to achieving positive outcomes for rangatahi/youth, family/whanau and the community. · Have a high level of resilience, a down to earth nature with a good sense of humour. · Build confidence, promote and model positive behaviours to youth. · Have a confident and professional response to crisis situations. You will need:- · Experience in mentoring rangatahi/youth individually and/or in a group. · Knowledge of youth justice court processes and the role of Family Group Conferences. · Experience in advocating on behalf of rangatahi. · Strong cultural awareness and understanding of Te Ao Māori me ōna Tikanga. · Experience working with rangatahi from a range of cultures and backgrounds. · High standard of professionalism and integrity · Ability to work with a diverse range of people and services with excellent engagement skills. · Experience in assessing and developing individual plans for rangatahi that meet the needs of youth, assessing them to acquire new skills while increasing their confidence and motivation. · Strict adherence to health and safety standards and procedures. · Full clean driver’s licence and the ability to transport youth in a van. · The ability to drive a manual ideal. · Resilience with the ability to work under pressure. · Youth work or relevant qualification preferred but not essential. · Flexibility to work in different place settings to provide mentoring opportunities through sports, the arts etc. and build their cultural awareness and skills.
