Are you passionate about promoting the culture and historic places of Aotearoa New Zealand?
Are you dedicated to creating meaningful events related to our nation's diverse heritage?
Are you keen to preserve iconic properties and important collections for future generations?
Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga (HNZPT) is looking for a Visitor Services Coordinator (VSC), with proven skills in organising successful cultural heritage events and running fantastic functions in historic settings. We need help with the mahi at two of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland's oldest places - Highwic in Newmarket and Ewelme Cottage in Parnell - historic homes to some of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland's early Pākeha European arrivals with deep connections to Māori history and archaeology.
Based at Highwic, but with regular visits and work at Ewelme, the VSC reports to the Property Lead (PL). Working together they are responsible for the daily operations of the two properties and supporting our wider HNZPT organisation. This is a varied and interesting role, needing a dynamic and self-motivated person to coordinate bookings, liaise with partners, stakeholders, volunteers and members as well as work on retail operations, running administration and coordinating housekeeping. Welcoming visitors is a big part of the role - from school-groups of tamariki to tours of active seniors.
Our ideal candidate will become a kaitiaki of these two incredibly special places – passionate about protecting the past by caring for the present for the benefit of the future. They will love history or be very keen to learn about heritage places and approaches to their care. They will have highly effective planning and organisational skills with demonstrable experience in cultural heritage management, working in historic places or relevant tourism sectors. Excellent English speaking and writing skills are vital. Fluency in Te Reo Māori or a desire to learn are an advantage. If you value history and heritage, are enthusiastic, kind, and curious, with a passion for people and events - this role is for you!
This is a full-time, permanent position 40 hrs p/week from Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm. It includes occasional work at weekends and evenings as needed and agreed in advance to support events, functions, and bookings.
Applications for this role close at 5pm on Monday, 30 September 2024.
