At Everest, we are all about people. We work with our clients and candidates to build great relationships so we can match the right person to the right role.
Here’s our latest opportunity!
About the organisation:
Hamilton Legal is a unique law firm, entrusted by the Crown to represent the community’s interests in the Waikato. It is on a journey of change as it experiences growth, creating a supportive environment for its staff, through individual development plans, external training and the opportunity for continued learning.
To act for the community is a privilege and one Hamilton Legal does not take lightly. They take pride in the work they do, ensuring it is undertaken independently, fairly and to the highest standard. The team works collaboratively with key stakeholders in central and local government agencies, providing advice and court representation across a range of proceedings including criminal prosecutions, criminal proceeds recovery, coronial inquests, parole hearings and appeals.
About the role:
As the sole representative for the Crown in the Waikato, Hamilton Legal is looking to supplement its team with experienced litigators, undertaking complex casework within criminal prosecution and civil law.
Duties and responsibilities will vary dependent upon the levels of experience or subject matter expertise you bring. Working individually and collectively, you will;
  • Run an independent caseload and support the senior team on files, representing the Crown in criminal prosecutions at a more complex level.
  • Provide considered advice and legal opinion to civil and regulatory clients, representing them in court proceedings.
  • Collaborate with clients, colleagues and external parties to develop effective legal strategies and achieve favourable outcomes.
  • Support and mentor junior colleagues, being considered, respectful and constructive in growing their knowledge and capability.
  • Conduct thorough file reviews, legal research and analysis to support case preparation and documentation, identifying risks for prompt resolution.
  • Review and interpret legislation, regulations and legal precedents to assess the strength of cases.
This is more than just ensuring due process - people are at the centre of everything we do. We uphold ethical and professional standards to the highest level.
About you:
Our ideal candidates will have;
  • A minimum of four years criminal or civil litigation experience with a current practising certificate.
  • The ability to manage a diverse caseload and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • A critical eye for detail and the ability to identify risks, providing solutions to minimise their impact.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, confidently presenting and arguing points of law while maintaining integrity and fairness.
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, sometimes pressured environment.
  • A focus on the community.
Benefits:
  • Professional supervision and career development.
  • Opportunity for variety as well as specialty.
  • Supportive working environment.
You will be well supported and valued by a close-knit professional team.
If this sounds like your next career move, don’t delay – apply now!
