Join our Infrastructure Support team as a Senior Dev Ops Engineer. You will play a pivotal role in supporting and developing the Ministry’s Azure footprint.

Our Information Management Division (IMD) provides key services to the Ministry in the areas of knowledge and information technology management, ensuring that the Ministry has the digital tools it needs to enable day-to-day business. Our staff are committed to building a safe, more prosperous and sustainable future for all New Zealanders, assisting the Government with international priorities and providing advice to the government on the implications for New Zealand of what is happening in the world.
Our team has recently assumed responsibility for supporting the Ministry’s Azure infrastructure, initially developed by our project team. With extensive experience in on-premises infrastructure, we are now upskilling in cloud practices and knowledge. This Senior Dev Ops Engineer role is crucial for bringing expertise to our team and strengthening our Azure operational processes and practices.
The Senior Dev Ops engineer is a key member of the Infrastructure Team, responsible for:
- Providing subject matter expertise, advice, and guidance to the Infrastructure Team manager in all areas of Azure. * Automating Cloud Deployments: Architect and deploy automated solutions to streamline development and operational processes, enhancing productivity. * Optimizing Cloud Resource Utilization: Monitor and tune cloud resources to ensure cost-efficiency and high performance. * Enforcing Cloud Security Policies: Implement security measures to protect data and applications from unauthorized access and potential threats. * Guiding and Mentoring: Mentor other cloud engineers and support staff, fostering professional growth and adherence to best practices. * Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with development, operations, and security teams to facilitate continuous integration and deployment practices.
Please note: You must be happy to participate on a roster to be on-call on weekends and at nights.

The full range for this role is $104,670 to $141,612 (total remuneration, inclusive of our 3% Kiwi Saver employer contribution). We expect to appoint around the midpoint $123,141 – depending on your level of experience.

We’d like to hear from you if you have the following skills and experience:
- A tertiary and/or industry qualification(s) in information technology such as MCTS, MCP, MCSA, MCSE, AZ-900, AZ-104, AZ-400, VCP, CCE, CCP, is desirable or equivalent industry experience. * At least 7 years practical experience in ICT systems. * Extensive experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud Operations and Enterprise Management toolsets for proactive system management (Dev Ops, Bastion, Process Automation, ADO, etc.) * Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, etc.) * Extensive experience with Power Shell and scripting technologies * Extensive experience with all aspects of Microsoft Domain services (DNS, Group Policy, Entra ID, etc) * Experience in integrations with enterprise Saa S solutions.
Ideally you will also have a good understanding of tikanga (Māori customs and protocols), with the ability to weave te ao Māori (the Māori worldview) into your work. If you are just starting on this journey that’s OK too – as long as you have a willingness to learn and a desire to develop your cultural capability.
