Our three Commercial and Institutional Performance teams, alongside our Governance and Appointments team, provide advice to Ministers on the Crown's ownership interest in approximately 50 Crown companies and entities in the Infrastructure, Services and Investment sectors, including some of the largest companies and financial institutions in New Zealand. Our aim is to ensure that these entities are overseen to optimise performance, manage risk and enhance value to support future intergenerational wellbeing. We are at the interface of the commercial world and central government, and we look for talented people from a range of professional backgrounds to support us in our work. Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role This is a fixed-term role through to the end of June 2025. In this role, you will lead work to support the government to be clear about the public policy reasons for the Crown to own commercial entities and what is it trying to achieve with that ownership. The results of this work will be used to support Ministers to drive the performance and value of commercial entities for to the Crown. Key deliverables include:
Engaging with senior officials across relevant public sector departments and commercial entities and applying analytical tools to provide advice to Ministers on purpose statements,
Providing advice to Ministers on opportunities to improve the public value and performance of the Crown's commercial entities,
Working with Treasury's commercial entity relationship managers to apply ownership purposes to the issues and challenges facing individual commercial entities.
With at least 4 -5 years of relevant experience, you will be employed in a public sector economic policy or machinery of government advisory role and will bring project lead experience. Wherever you are, you will be conversant with the Crown's arm's length ownership model, bring commercial analysis skills and have the intellectual curiosity to help drive our ownership purposes work programme. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex problems in a relatable manner,
Experience in leading work programmes and an ability to collaborate and coordinate with colleagues across a public sector agencies,
The ability to influence and work with different stakeholders,
Strong commercial and/or economic problem-solving skills, and experience in applying these to provide strategic, policy or performance advice,
Experience and practical knowledge of strategic and commercial issues and to project leadership.
