Researcher/Analyst, Inquiry Facilitation
Waitangi Tribunal Unit
Fixed-term position / secondment opportunity (12 months)

We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who wants to gain public service experience in a commission of inquiry environment. You will join a team that works alongside Waitangi Tribunal panels, claimants and counsel, and with colleagues across the Waitangi Tribunal Unit to deliver high-quality inquiry and hearing facilitation services.
The Waitangi Tribunal Unit provides a comprehensive range of services to the Waitangi Tribunal, a permanent commission of inquiry that inquires into and reports on claims submitted by Māori under the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975.
The Researcher/Analyst position description spans three teams within the Waitangi Tribunal Unit. We are currently seeking a hardworking, talented and motivated professional to join our Inquiry Facilitation team.

Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience
To be successful in the role you will have strong verbal and written communication and analytical skills, and the ability to plan and prioritise work. You will understand and be committed to the work of the Waitangi Tribunal and ideally bring experience and passion for engaging with te ao Māori. An understanding of te reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori would be beneficial.
You will be able to use your initiative and be an effective communicator with a strong focus on customer service. You will thrive in a fast-paced work environment with multiple workstreams and be highly collaborative and quick to build strong working relationships.
You will have a tertiary qualification in New Zealand history, Māori studies, public policy, law or other relevant disciplines. Relevant work experience in the public service or related organisations is also beneficial.

The Inquiry Facilitation team is responsible for facilitating the flow of information to support official Tribunal events, providing robust procedural analysis and advice, drafting judicial memoranda-directions, evidential analysis, and inquiry planning to support the Tribunal hearings.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $72,634 and $100,846 based on skills and experience.
