Registered Nurse - Children's Ward

Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi. Engari, he toa takitini. Success is not the work of one, but the work of many.

Location: Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital
Service/Department: General Paediatric Ward
Contract: Permanent, Part-time positions (64 hours per fortnight)

Are you a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse with a heart for paediatric care? We're inviting you to join our Children's Ward, where every shift offers you the opportunity to support and nurture the health of our youngest patients while being part of a caring, dedicated team.

About the role:
Located in our General Paediatric Ward, a 16-bed facility, you’ll be providing care to children up to 15 years of age. This is a highly rewarding role where you’ll make a tangible difference in the lives of children and their families. Our team works closely across multiple disciplines, ensuring holistic care that meets both the medical and emotional needs of each child.
You’ll encounter a wide variety of cases, from common childhood illnesses to more complex conditions, offering you the challenge and satisfaction that comes with working in an acute paediatric setting. Whether comforting a child or supporting their whānau (family), your day-to-day work will be dynamic, fulfilling, and centred around compassionate care.

About our team:
Our Children’s Ward team is a diverse group of skilled professionals who are passionate about providing the best possible care for our tamariki (children). We value collaboration and create a supportive environment where every member of the team feels empowered to contribute their knowledge and expertise.
We work closely with doctors, specialists, and allied health professionals to ensure each child receives comprehensive and coordinated care. With regular team meetings, open communication, and a culture of mutual respect, we foster an environment where everyone’s ideas and skills are valued. You’ll be joining a warm, friendly team where your professional development is encouraged, and your wellbeing is a priority.

Skills and experience:
We are seeking Registered Nurses who have experience working with children in a clinical setting, preferably in acute care. You’ll bring excellent clinical skills and, just as importantly, an empathetic approach to patient care. The ability to connect with children and families, to support them during stressful moments, and to work collaboratively within a team is key to success in this role.

Skills and Experience:
  • Current NZ Registered Nurse with a valid Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Proven experience in paediatric nursing (acute care experience is preferred)
  • Ability to manage a variety of cases with confidence and compassion
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and learning
