This role offers you an exciting opportunity to take a strategic lead to regionally support staff to uphold the rights and leadership of whānau hauā / disabled people. As such, this role functions as an integral link between the community and regional / national areas of the organisation by building relationships, facilitating advocacy, awareness, education, community connection, and strategic organisational development.

About the role:
  • You will be a conduit between the National Disabled Leadership team and the region, providing strategic ideas and facilitating rights-based thinking and involvement of disabled people.
  • Support the identification and minimisation of knowledge gaps concerning disability rights and disabled leadership.
  • Work with the National Training Coordinator and the National Disabled Leadership Team to develop, facilitate, and coordinate training programs for internal and external groups.
  • Be an active member of the Regional Disabled Leadership group and support disabled staff collectively and individually.
  • Develop positive connections with disabled people, governance, and the wider community.
About you
  • You will have experience in a service delivery organisation.
  • Understanding of the disability sector and ability to relate to people with disabilities in a positive, affirming manner.
  • Strong understanding of disability rights and culture.
  • Exceptional relationship and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate ideas.
  • Leadership skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of working with stakeholders and knowledge of relevant sector changes and developments.
  • Innovative thinking, with proven ability to find and deliver new approaches and solutions.
  • Identify as a disabled person with lived experience of impairment.
