Publishing Lead


Are you passionate and excited about book publishing and building relationships? Join Auckland Libraries as a Publishing Lead to strategically guide and manage our publishing programme.

He angitūtanga: The opportunity
This is an exciting role where you can make a meaningful impact by bringing to life stories that matter to the communities of Tāmaki Makaurau, uncovering voices and perspectives that might not be widely shared elsewhere. Auckland Libraries’ publishing programme aims to fill gaps in our library collections and create books and other content for and with our local communities, focusing on Māori, Pasifika, literacy and our library collections.

Day to day your responsibilities will look like:
  • Leading, driving, and implementing the publishing strategy and work programme.
  • Working with local community, internal partners and publishing partners to create and publish content.
  • Focusing on books and supporting a wider content creation programme, including videos, podcasts, and more.
  • Guiding and managing the overall work programme.
  • Leading engagement with internal and external partners.
  • Providing expert guidance on publishing.
  • Convening and steering working groups to review project proposals, progress, and outcomes.
  • Guiding the work of our Library Publishing Specialist.
This is a 14-month, fixed-term, full-time position working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible working arrangements available. The role is based at Auckland Central City Library.

We are looking for a collaborative leader who can demonstrate the following:
  • Experience in book publishing or content creation.
  • Ability to strategically lead and manage a programme of work and achievable pipeline of publishing projects.
  • Cultural competence and confidence in engaging with diverse communities, specifically Māori and Pacific communities.
  • Strong relationship-building/management skills and a collaborative approach.
  • Ability to guide a range of subject matter experts.
  • A qualification in publishing, communications, or a similar field.

This role is a band H, we are expecting to appoint the successful applicant at a salary of between $100- $120k per annum, depending upon experience.
