Our Information Management Division (IMD) provides key services to the Ministry in the areas of knowledge and information technology management, ensuring that the Ministry has the digital tools it needs to enable day-to-day business. Our staff are committed to building a safe, more prosperous and sustainable future for all New Zealanders, assisting the government with international priorities and providing advice to the government on the implications for New Zealand of what is happening in the world.
This pivotal role is part of the new Design and Delivery team in IMD. This role will support MFAT to align the designs and solutions to the Ministry’s evolving requirements, constraints, challenges and environments.
The Principal Enterprise Architect is responsible for:
- Maintaining the Ministry’s current state architecture and identifying a strategic application future state design/roadmap * Contributing to the overall enterprise architecture framework * Collaborating with other members of the Architecture team, Product Groups, Service Providers, and the business customers * Providing specialist advice applying comprehensive knowledge of the business, enterprise and application architecture for all significant Ministry processes and applications * Providing expertise in the design of Ministry application architecture * Researching and reviewing technologies in the marketplace to understand where they might add value for the Ministry * Support the outcomes of solution approvals by ensuring that the overall application architecture is fit for purpose and leads to cost effective, integrated, supported and suitably future proof applications.

The full salary range is $144,934 to $196,087 (total remuneration, inclusive of our 3% Kiwi Saver employer contribution). We expect to hire around the midpoint $170,510 - depending on your level of experience.

We’d like to hear from you if you have the following skills and experience:
- A minimum of 10 years Enterprise Architecture experience * Expertise and understanding of Business, Application, Data and Infrastructure domains * Demonstrated experience of modelling in the above domains * Advanced skills in managing the development of architecture to meet business requirements * Experience in a security agency would be advantageous
Ideally you will also have a good understanding of tikanga (Māori customs and protocols), with the ability to weave te ao Māori (the Māori worldview) into your work. If you are just starting on this journey that’s OK too – as long as you have a willingness to learn and a desire to develop your cultural capability.
