Principal Advisor, Engagement and Innovation

A role has emerged for a values-led and innovative Principal Advisor who is passionate about leading and strengthening the practice of effective public health engagement and innovation within the Public Health Agency as the steward of the public health system.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
As a member of the Public Health Engagement & Innovation team, the Principal Advisor will work with kaimahi across the Public Health Agency [PHA] and beyond to design and embed more effective ways of engagement and innovation. The Principal Advisor will provide thought leadership, project management, and capability building to drive forward the team's work in the following key areas:
  • Elevating whānau voice across PHA mahi
  • Facilitating cross-sectoral collaboration on key public health opportunities
  • Growing innovation and learning cultures and practice within the organisaiton

The Public Health Agency sits within Manatū Hauora – Ministry of Health and is the kaitiaki of the public health system – leading public health and population health policy, strategy, regulatory, intelligence, surveillance and monitoring functions, with a key role in providing advice to Ministers on all public health matters.

Ko pūkenga - What you'll bring
Working at the Principal Advisor level, you will bring strong real-world practitioner experience and knowledge of both ‘Listening To' and ‘Acting on” whānau voice in public health and/or other spaces. You will understand the realities – both enablers and challenges – of these practices in the Aotearoa – New Zealand communities context.
You bring a variety of experience in leading values-led design thinking from start to implementation with both communities and cross-sectoral organisations. You have a great history of bringing a diverse group of stakeholders together towards shared vision and achieving collective impact. You are passionate about growing capability in people, whether it's with colleagues, partners or members of our wider communities. Your leadership style is values-led, strengths-based and coaching oriented, with a strong track record in influencing organisational conditions.

Other key competencies include:
  • Relevant qualification in systems change design thinking.
  • An understanding and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Experience using culturally informed approaches and frameworks.
  • Excellent relationship and communication skills to lead and deliver presentations/group facilitation.
  • Experience to gather insights and put into accessible formats.
  • Ability to translate whānau insights into policy advice/planning/strategy development.
  • Commitment to improving equity of health outcomes.

This role has a salary midpoint of $140,938, actual salary dependent on your experience.
