Occupational Therapist - Inpatient Mental Health

Where you’ll be working: The Henry Rongomau Bennett Centre, Waikato Hospital
The details: Permanent - full time 80 hours per fortnight

We have a great opportunity for someone who is a dynamic and suitably experienced Occupational Therapist (OT) to join one of our in-patient mental health teams.
Maaori are significantly represented across our services, which is why we are moving towards becoming a ‘culturally led, clinically underpinned’ service. Delivering excellent care in a culturally responsive manner, to support the best outcomes for Maaori is fundamental to our mahi.

Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
The Occupational Therapist (OT) will be working alongside our wider MDT to support tāngata whaiora. The role is varied and includes working individually with tāngata whaiora undertaking assessments, group work / activities, education and providing support to the wider team and care partners. This may also include working individually and in group settings with tāngata whaiora and potentially supporting them to integrate into the community.

Location of the role will be dependent on skill, experience and particular interest

Key responsibilities of the role:
  • To implement an occupational therapy problem solving process including assessment, goal setting, planning, delivery and evaluation of services for tāngata whaiora
  • To facilitate group and individual therapeutic interventions
  • To provide efficient, effective occupational therapy interventions within a multi-disciplinary and inter-professional framework in a mental health setting
  • To use the theory of occupation to improve, maintain and restore health and well-being to participate in meaningful activities of daily life
  • To apply culturally safe principles in the workplace

Mōu | About you
To be considered for a position you must have:
  • Bachelor of Occupational Therapy or Bachelor of Health Science (Occupational Therapy)
  • Registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of New Zealand with a current annual practicing certificate
  • A passion for making a difference to the lives of our tāngata whaioraand whanau
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to support the expression of hauora Māori models of care and mātauranga Māori.
