Accountabilities
Teaching • Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching via all modes of
teaching and delivery mediums, including through electronic and on-
line technologies.

• Design and develop the academic and administrative content of

courses and design the appropriate assessment criteria and processes.

• Coordinate and administer the teaching delivery and assessment of all

papers in line with School, College and University practices, policies,
and procedures.

• Coordinate a course, year or area of School activity as requested by

• the Head of School or BVSc Academic Lead.

• Ensure that all teaching is research-informed and relevant, and that

course materials are regularly updated.

• Allocate and supervise the teaching and marking of tutors/senior

tutors, graduate assistants, and technical support personnel.

• Participate in the peer review of teaching to enhance the quality of

course design and delivery.

• Arrange for regular student evaluations of teaching for all

papers/courses for which paper-coordination responsibilities have
been assigned.

• Be accessible to students by providing consultation time on course-

related matters.

• Undertake teaching on each of Massey University’s campuses as

required and through distance education.

• Comply with all relevant School and University teaching and learning

policies, practices, and procedures (e.g., Teaching & Learning,
Academic Integrity, Assessment and Equivalence).

Supervision • Contribute to the University degree completions and success by
supervising the research activities of undergraduate and postgraduate
students, including postgraduate research projects and theses.


Research and • Undertake an active and appropriate programme of academic
Scholarship research, including participation in team-based research as
appropriate, to the level expected by the University’s Strategic
Research Capability Policy.

• Publish books and papers and/or other scholarly works in academic

journals and other publications.

• Review research papers and other scholarly publications.

• Participate in and present research at academic conferences.

• Contribute to School/College/University seminars and workshops.

• Actively seek research funding, particularly external funding, where

there is an opportunity to do so, in line with the School and College of
Sciences’ researcher expectations.

• Submit recent publications data to Research Management Services for

entry onto the Research Information Management System (RIMS).

• Periodically enter updated ‘Peer Esteem’ and ‘Contributions to the

Research Environment’ information onto RIMS. Service • Contribute to meeting the administrative and committee needs of
the University, both internally and externally, by participating in
School, College and University functions as may be required, or
approved from time to time, by the Head of School.

• Where required, contribute to the administrative requirements of

the teaching programmes through activities such as Paper and/or
Course Coordination.

• Support the School to develop an environment which gives

practical effect to the obligations of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

• Assist the School to develop and strengthen relationships with

professional and stakeholder communities as appropriate.

curriculum for the BVSc programme, focussing on your veterinary clinical discipline.

• Prepare and present online learning resources, lectures,

laboratory sessions, seminars, tutorials and assessments for undergraduate students in your clinical discipline.

Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications: • Relevant Ph D (or equivalent) or other post-graduate qualification.

• BVSc or equivalent degree recognised by the New Zealand Veterinary

Council to enable full registration in New Zealand as a veterinarian.

• Veterinary specialist qualification in a veterinary clinical discipline (e.g.

Diplomate of European/American College or Fellowship of Australasian
College). Experience: • Experience in teaching veterinary undergraduates desirable.

• Experience in veterinary practice desirable.
