It is a great time to join our Mechanical team. Our Mechanical team is a division of the business specialising in Infrastructure Construction, based around water and wastewater treatment plant, pump stations, reservoirs, and pipelines. We are currently delivering work ranging from Bridges and Wharves to Water Treatment Plants and Storage Tanks and Pipelines.
We’re now looking for a Mechanical Estimator to join our team due to increased demand in this area. We have a role available based in our Bay of Plenty office. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills and experience with a leader who is truly invested in his people. Your day to day tasks will be as follows:
- Take-off quantities from drawings (layouts, isometrics, P&IDs)
- Review specifications & contract documents
- Price fabrication & installation of pipework (Mainly SS, occasionally CS or plastics)
- Price fabrication & installation of Structural steel
- Price fabrication & installation of Platforms & walkways
- Price installation of process equipment
- Price testing & commissioning
- Review NZS3910 contract conditions
- Gather market pricing for materials (valves, pumps, penstocks, stoplogs, tanks, flares, instruments and various process equipment)
- Gather market pricing for subcontractor works (electrical, automation, building services, design, civils, scaffolding, cranage, blasting & painting, NDT & inspections)
- Manage subcontractor/supplier packages (write & send RFQs, review subcontractor pricing & clarifications, carry out comparisons and selections)
- Price P&G (management, site facilities, accommodation & travel, bonds, retentions, insurances)
- Provide input on risk register, tender programme, methodology & clarifications
- Present work in internal tender reviews in order to secure approval from management
- Prepare final schedule of pricing
This role would suit an experienced Project Engineer or Manager who is looking to move into a more office based role with enhanced work life balance.

What we're looking for:
We're looking for a candidate who's familiar with the construction processes mentioned above, with at least 5 years exposure to site and/or workshop environments. You should be able to visualise how things will be physically constructed, assign durations to each part of the work sequence, and determine which labour, materials, plant, subcontractors and overheads will be required.
You will be primarily involved in water treatment and wastewater treatment industries, although we welcome applicants from other industries with relevant experience. You will normally be pricing in 1-2 tenders at a time and a typical tender duration is 8 weeks. Tenders are generally assembled by a team consisting of an estimator (responsible for pricing), bid manager (responsible for methodology, programme), tender writer (responsible for managing client correspondence and assembling the final bid), and managers who review and sign off the tender. You will need to cooperate well with others and be transparent with your capabilities and progress. On large projects you will be working under a lead mechanical estimator.
The main software packages we use are CCS Candy, MS Excel and MS Project. Familiarity to these software packages would be advantageous. Understanding of the NZ supply chain for the materials are subcontractors listed above is also welcome. Experience with cost estimation is preferred but not essential.
