Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
We are seeking a Manager Digital Portfolio to join our Business Technology & Information Services directorate within the Corporate Services branch.
The role of Business Technology and Information Services (BTIS) is to enable business technology solutions and deliver high-quality, cost-effective information and technology services to ministry staff and external stakeholders. We do this by partnering with business units to ensure we work closely with managers and staff, so we understand how each business area operates, and what is expected of our teams.
As part of this role, you will:
Lead the delivery of high-quality project management and business analysis capabilities for digital projects
Develop & deliver effective reporting to the Digital Portfolio Board, Governance groups and senior leaders across MPI
Maintain portfolio oversight and perform project health reviews and interventions when required
Ensure all frameworks are fit for use, and drive a repeatable and consistent delivery approach
Manage all resources and outcomes within the function through the effective implementation of organisational processes and procedures (e.g. recruitment, financial, planning, monitoring and measuring, reporting)
Have responsibility of 7 direct reports managing a variety of projects, including application, cloud and infrastructure projects.

This is an exciting and busy time for us and were looking someone accomplished in leading a PMO function, who can bring a robust assurance and process improvement ethos to this role.
Your background will include Senior Project or Programme management, leading delivery and therefore understanding more than just the theories behind project methodologies.
To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:
Programme and/or project management certification (PMI, Prince2, or similar)
Knowledge of strategic and business planning processes
Sound understanding of Information Services service delivery models
Demonstrated experience in analysing technical issues and making business decisions with financial impact
Ability to apply a strong assurance lens across the portfolio, including performing health checks and other interventions when required
Strong people leadership skills with well-honed relationship management skills enabling you to confidently engage with and influence a wide range of stakeholders
Proven demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively (both orally and in writing) with a wide range of people in different situations, in order to explain, persuade, convince and influence others
Understanding of management policies relating to the Treaty Principles and the Crown's obligations to Māori.

The Manager Digital Portfolio is responsible for a small team of Project Managers and Business Analysts, who support MPI's Digital portfolio delivery.
The Digital Portfolio Office is part of the Business Technology & Information Services directorate and provides planning and delivery services such as project management, programme management, and business analysis expertise for all digital initiatives on MPI's Digital Investment Plan. This is an exciting and busy time for us, and we are looking for motivated people who can contribute to our part of this journey and assist in our role to grow and protect New Zealand.
