Are you Hamilton Libraries next Auaha Makerspace Librarian? Join the Hamilton City Libraries team, where our Auaha Makerspace needs someone who is technically-savvy, has a creative, problem-solving mind and a positive vibe to welcome everyone to the space to create with hands-on learning. What is a Auaha Makerspace Librarian?
This position plays a pivotal role in curating and facilitating creative environments known as Makerspaces. These spaces are hubs of curiosity and innovation where everyone in the community comes together to explore their inventive side.
As an Auaha Makerspace Librarian, you will oversee and manage these communal workshops, which are equipped with a wide array of tools, technology, and resources. The primary goal here is to foster collaboration, inspire curiosity, and provide access to a dynamic space where people can design, prototype, and build anything from 3D-printed inventions to electronic gadgets, promoting hands-on learning and the spirit of DIY innovation. I’m interested! What do I need to be considered for the role? For this role, you must have:
Experience in lesson planning, facilitating classes and workshops and making sure learning outcomes are completed.
Knowledge and working understanding of STEM and the multiple disciplines.
A practical mind to safely operate, maintain and troubleshoot our many tools and equipment like 3D printers through to recording studio.
Great communication skills as you will need to coach others who aren’t technically knowledgeable.
What are the working hours for this role?
This is a permanent role, working 37.5 hours per week, working in a fun, creative space with a team of supportive people.
This role has set workdays from Monday to Friday, which will include some weekends and late nights.
Can I work flexibly? Unfortunately, no - our roster are set days per week. What’s the salary? The recruiting salary for this role starts at $68,854 per annum but we negotiate with the successful candidate to acknowledge their level of skills and experience they can bring to the team. What’s in it for me? You’ll be able to tap into our great Council benefits:
As a permanent employee - free private medical insurance for you (including cover for pre-existing conditions and no excess) and discounted policies for your family members.
Two paid wellbeing days each year to make sure you are looking after yourself.
Learning and Development opportunities to grow yourself and your career.
Free annual health checks and flu vaccinations.
Relocation allowance should you live outside of the Waikato and wish to make the move to the fast-growing city of Hamilton!
What does a day in this job look like? No two days will be the same! Working across our two Auaha Makerspace locations, you’ll join our team of Makerspace Librarians who play with our technology and tools to build their expertise to teach them to others. Regular events occur frequently where you will facilitate classes in badge making, computer-aided design, 3D or vinyl printing, as well as curious customers who love to take a look at what’s happening in the space. This job is for you if you:
Have a positive vibe that customers warm to, are always up for a laugh and can interact with people from all walks of life.
Thrive in playing around with technology and have a zest for showing others how to use them.
Want to spark someone’s curiosity and wonder as they find their creativity and produce a product with your help.
This job isn’t for you if you:
Find technology a struggle to understand.
Are uncomfortable being with a wide array of diverse people or have difficultly communicating with people from all walks of life.
Prefer to work independently - we have other Auaha Makerspace Librarians that will be collaborating with you.
