The purpose of this position is to contribute to enhancing the learning and

Accountabilities
Teaching • Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching via all modes
of teaching and delivery mediums, including through electronic and
on-line technologies.

  • Design and develop the academic and administrative content of
courses and design the appropriate assessment criteria and
processes.
  • Coordinate and administer the teaching delivery and assessment of
courses in line with School, College and University practices,
policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate a course, year or area of School activity as requested by
the Head of School or BVSc Academic Lead.
  • Ensure that all teaching is research-informed and relevant, and that
course materials are regularly updated.
  • Allocate and supervise the teaching and marking of tutors/senior
tutors, graduate assistants, and technical support personnel.
  • Participate in the peer review of teaching to enhance the quality of
course design and delivery.
  • Arrange for regular student evaluations of teaching for all courses
for which coordination responsibilities have been assigned.
  • Be accessible to students by providing consultation time on course-
related matters.
  • Undertake teaching on each of Massey University’s campuses as
required and through distance education.
  • Comply with all relevant School and University teaching and
learning policies, practices, and procedures (e.g., Teaching &
Learning, Academic Integrity, Assessment and Equivalence).
Supervision • Contribute to the University degree completions and success by
supervising the research activities of undergraduate and
postgraduate students, including postgraduate research projects
and theses.


Research and • Undertake an active and appropriate programme of academic
Scholarship research, including participation in team-based research as

appropriate, to the level expected by the University’s Strategic
Research Capability Policy.

  • Publish books and papers and/or other scholarly works in academic
journals and other publications.
  • Review research papers and other scholarly publications.

  • Participate in and present research at academic conferences.
  • Contribute to School/College/University seminars and workshops.
  • Actively seek research funding, particularly external funding, where
there is an opportunity to do so, in line with the School and College
of Sciences’ researcher expectations.
  • Submit recent publications data to Research Management Services
for entry onto the Research Information Management System
(RIMS).
  • Periodically enter updated ‘Peer Esteem’ and ‘Contributions to the
Research Environment’ information onto RIMS. Service • Contribute to the administrative needs of the University, internally
and externally, by participating in School, College and University
functions as carried out by Boards, Committees, working parties,
groups and offices as may be required or approved from time to time
by the Head of School.

  • Support the School to develop an environment which gives practical
effect to the obligations of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Assist the School to develop and strengthen relationships with
professional and stakeholder communities as appropriate.
University & School • Act to minimise threats to health and safety and that of staff and

Specific accountabilities • Assist with delivery of practical classes and tutorials where required
or requested.
  • Prepare and present online learning resources, lectures, laboratory
sessions, seminars, tutorials and assessments for Bachelor of Veterinary Science students.
  • Contribute to staff training and development in outcomes-based

  • Actively contribute to the development of a competency-based
curriculum for the Bachelor of Veterinary Science programme. Communication • Clear, confident communicator and presenter.

Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications: • A veterinary degree (BVSc or equivalent) is essential - preferably
registerable with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand.

  • Teaching qualifications would be an advantage.
  • Postgraduate qualifications or training in a preclinical or clinical
veterinary discipline would be an advantage. Experience: • A successful track record of tertiary teaching in a veterinary
programme is highly desirable.

  • Experience with outcomes-based learning and assessment is highly
desirable.
  • Clinical experience working as a veterinarian is highly desirable.
  • Experience with staff training and development is preferred.
  • Experience with development of effective online learning resources,
and innovative learning and assessment methods is highly desirable.
  • Experience with education-based research is preferred.
