Census helps us see how Aotearoa New Zealand is changing over time. It helps us understand what support and services families, whānau and communities need.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced communications and engagement professional to be part of the future of census in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Reporting to the Senior Manager - External Affairs, the Principal Advisor - Communications is a busy role suited to a seasoned communications and engagement professional.
In this role you'll need to be comfortable leading high-profile pieces of work, working closely with engagement and policy teams.
You'll be able to seamlessly make the switch between big picture, creative thinking and tactical, operational communications. You'll be comfortable working in all areas from strategic communications and internal communications to PR and risk management to marketing campaigns and engagement.
As the communications lead for future census, you'll also be passionate about the value social and wellbeing statistics bring to life in Aotearoa New Zealand.

To be successful in this role you'll:
be a seasoned communications professional with at least five-years' experience in a similar role, including working in large, complex projects
be skilled at converting strategic, complex or technical information into clear, compelling material that's fit for purpose and audience
be agile, organised and focused on the detail
have a good understanding of the machinery of government and experience navigating it
be able to demonstrate sound relationship building skills
have a whatever it takes attitude and thrive in ambiguity and change
mentor, lead and support other communications kaimahi
have a good understanding of economic, social and governmental influences, the political environment and other agencies and groups likely to impact on our organisation
have an interest in the future of social and wellbeing statistics, and supporting key communities and everyday New Zealanders to access data that is meaningful to them.
