Role Title: Grounds person
Location: Nelson
Contract Type: Part-Time, 16hours/week (plus occasionally additional hours)
The Opportunity
We are looking for fit, keen and reliable Grounds person people to join our Maintenance Team, working primarily on our Te Whatu Ora grounds maintenance contract.
Based at the Nelson Hospital grounds your daily activities will involve horticulture maintenance within the area for the Nelson Hospital grounds. This role involves vegetation trimming, spray maintenance and some planting. Your work will include using various hand tools, power tools and operating small equipment, in sensitive environment. There is also other off-site work undertaken from time to time.
You will be working a minimum of 16 hours a week however flexibility is a must as there is the occasional time where you may have to work additional hours, (Spring growth periods) or be called in to assist in afterhours call outs.
What you’ll bring to the table
- An energetic personality, and ability to converse easily with both clients and customers.
- Full class 1 full drivers licence, class 2 is advantageous.
- Horticulture skills are preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Physically fit and able to perform physically demanding tasks.
- Be reliable and trustworthy.
- Proactive around Health and Safety.
- And of course you will be a team player, have an eye for detail, and a can-do-attitude
Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in road construction and maintenance is desired although not essential.
For the right candidate who is genuinely interested in this area of work, we will help you work towards your qualifications. This role involves being on-call at times, so some flexibility is required.
