About the role
We are looking for an Engineering Manager with great energy & drive, to join our high-performing Engineering team in Auckland.
The Engineering Manager is a pivotal role within our Engineering Team. For the right candidate, this position will be responsible in managing the temporary works design employees on assigned projects, tenders and leading the team to success.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and standards in relation to design and engineering activities conducted on tenders and projects.
- Support the tendering and winning of new work through sound and compliant design management practices, innovative engineering solutions, methods and techniques which provide a competitive advantage.
- Support the delivery of projects through sound and compliant design management practices and engineering solutions which drive economic, programme and risk management outcomes.
- Produce and execute the requirements of a Design and Engineering Management Plan.
- Promote a professional image of the Company’s operations, and maintenance of harmonious and effective relationships with Clients and their representatives in the execution of the tenders and projects.
- Represent the Company on recognised technical bodies as/when opportunities arise that are relevant to the Company’s business objectives.
- Work with the Business Unit Engineering Manager to select and engage design consultants and relevant service providers and suppliers in accordance with MMS procedures.
- Manage the development and delivery of tender and project design and engineering (both permanent and temporary works) carried out by design consultants.
- Ensure that all design consultants are advised of their obligations under applicable legislation, codes of practice, the Project Execution Plan and all conditions set out in the contractual documents, and that those obligations are met.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design and engineering management to become more competitive in winning work and more efficient in delivery.
What you'll need
- Tertiary engineering qualification.
- 15 years engineering experience in the construction industry with a demonstrated success in managing design consultants to time and cost targets, engineering standards and contract requirements.
- Strong leadership and communication abilities.
- Competent in negotiation.
- Ability to form and maintain external consultant relationships.
- A demonstrated understanding of contract management and cost control.
- A demonstrates flexibility and resilience in dealing with complex issues and an ability to deploy sound problem solving methodologies.
- Self-sufficiency and requiring minimal supervision.
- Strong oral and written presentation ability.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, organise and motivate others.
- Demonstrated team ethos and strong work ethic.
