About the Role
Support workers are integral components of any healthcare team assisting to deliver and support service users/tāngata whaiora to maintain mental health and wellness. Do you have the desire and the drive to work collaboratively with a team of health professionals to support people to live their very best?

We have an exciting opportunity available now for a support worker to join our Rural South Team based in Tokoroa.

Key responsibilities of the role are:
  • To provide practical support to tangata whaiora who access our service and to provide support to clinical staff who deliver those services.
  • Work under the guidance and supervision of a registered health professional.
  • Undertake duties in a professional and trustworthy manner.


About the Team
The Mental Health and Addictions service deliver a variety of services across the Waikato region. We are as a service undertaking a huge programme of change to deliver better outcomes to tāngata whai ora and whānau in our region. Nga iwi Ngakaunui - people at the heart is demonstrated best in mental health and addictions, people really are at the heart of all that we do. We know how important strong relationships are; with people who access our services, with their whānau and with the communities we serve. With tangata whaiora based both locally and rurally, this role provides an exciting opportunity to work closely with the communities in which people live and support better outcomes.

The multidisciplinary teams are strong, collaborative teams working Monday to Friday. The successful applicant will be welcomed as a valued member of the multidisciplinary team which has a strong focus on collaboration and tangata whaiora and whanau centric care.

About you
Our ideal candidate is a person who has strong links within the local community of Tokoroa who has demonstrated ability to engage with people from all walks of life and has a strong understanding of concepts within Te Ao Maori.

Skills and experience you’ll need to be considered for the role:
  • be open to learning and engage in development opportunities
  • be able to work using the guiding principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
  • have well developed time management skills with the ability to co-ordinate personal and team tasks in an efficient and organised manner
  • be computer literate and have the ability to complete documentation, both written and electronic
  • have a current full drivers licence
  • have proven relevant experience working with people experiencing mental health concerns.
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
