Community Mental Health Nurse - Central Sectors

Where you’ll be working: Central North and Central South Sectors based at 193 London Street, Hamilton
The details: Permanent – full or part time

Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
We are seeking experienced Registered nurses to join our Central Sectors community mental Health team, we are based in Hamilton but work across the Waikato Community. As a successful Community Mental Health Nurse you will play a key role supporting service users/ tāngata whaiora to maintain their health and mental wellbeing.

Day to day as a member of the multi-disciplinary team you will be working alongside tāngata whaiora and whānau in the community setting to reach their maximum mental health potential. You will need to build relationships with other health agencies for health promotion and to foster community engagement. Currently we have roles in different areas so you will have a designate base but a typical day will see you out visiting tāngata whaiora in their own homes and communities to deliver high quality mental health and addictions support.

We have alot of new initiatives happening in our region, one of which is the development of a Hauora Hub called Pookekatia located in Raahui Pookeka, Huntly. If you are interested in working in a service with a Kaupapa Maaori philosophy, then this opportunity is also available.

Part time and full time roles are available in Central North & Central South Teams. There is no shift work or weekend work required for these roles as all are Monday to Friday between 8-4.30pm.

  • Maintain your professional development to ensure your practice is current and evidence based.
  • Practice nursing in a way that ensures it is person centred and recovery focused.
  • Work to understand and build relationships within the community that you are working in.
  • A commitment to support tāngata whaiora to transition back to primary services with the tools and resources they require.

Mōu | About you
Skills and experience you’ll need to be considered for the role:
  • A current annual practicing certificate with scope to work in the mental health sector.
  • A current full driver’s license.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and how to apply this to your practice.
  • The ability to be service user/tangata whaiora focussed.
  • To be innovative and work effectively in a multidisciplinary team as well as autonomously.
  • Have well-developed time management skills with the ability to coordinate and prioritise personal and team task.
  • The ability to coordinate care and provide therapeutic interventions.
  • Experience working within mental health and addictions service.
