Where you’ll be working: Mental Health and Addictions Service
The details: Permanent – 80 hours per fortnight – Monday to Friday

We are seeking an experienced nurse to work across the Mental Health and Addiction Service in a consultative and advisory role to provide advice and guidance to services or agencies that support tangata whaiora who have an Intellectual Disability.

This is a new role and the successful applicant will be pivotal in leading the development and rolling out of this new initiative.

Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist - Coordinator/Advisor Intellectual Disability you will play a key role in providing an educational focus and knowledge base to the workforce. You will have the ability to build, shape and maintain key relationships within the health and community sectors to achieve positive and seamless learning experiences for tangata whaiora with an Intellectual Disability and members of the workforce that support them.
The role requires you to demonstrate a strong focus on and commitment to the role and to communicate professionally and clearly when interfacing with key stake-holders, both locally and nationally.

Key responsibilities of the role:
  • Support relevant staff and professionals in their acquisition of the desired values, knowledge about, principles, communication styles and practices associated with supporting those tangata whaiora with intellectual disability.
  • Provide general consultation, both locally and nationally, with relevant professionals on various issues relating to service provision to tangata whaiora with Intellectual Disability.
  • Provide advice and education in relation to clinical and therapeutic interventions, as required by teams across services.
  • Develop specific guidelines and policies (and revise and update those already in place nationally) in relation to Intellectual Disability.
  • Liaise and consult both locally and nationally toward the planning, development and delivery of co-ordinated care, treatment and service provision to whaiora who have an intellectual disability.
  • Enhance the positive profile of all staff involved in working with people with Intellectual disabilities and help develop a culture within services and communities so that those roles are perceived to be socially valued.

Mōu | About you
  • A current New Zealand nursing registration and practising certificate with scope to work in mental health and Intellectual disability
  • Significant experience working in the Intellectual Disability sector
  • Excellent communication and interface skills
  • Knowledge of the sector both locally and nationally.
  • A keen interest in providing education and professional development to the existing workforce
  • Passion and enthusiasm for the Intellectual Disability sector
