Wāhi Oranga is a 25 bed Acute Admissions Unit at
Nelson Hospital. As the only adult acute unit for the Nelson Marlborough
region the role is guaranteed to be varied, interesting and challenging.
As a Clinical Coordinator you will have
responsibility for the day to day running of the unit and clinical oversight of
a multi-disciplinary team. You will be supported by another two Clinical
Coordinators, a Clinical Nurse Specialist, and the Charge Nurse Manager.
This is a varied role working with a supportive and
enthusiastic team coordinating clinical practice, admissions, safety, staff
allocation, sensory modulation, and activities, with a key focus on least
restrictive practice and best possible client outcomes.
Main responsibilities include:
- Supporting the Charge Nurse Manager and leadership team with the
coordination of high quality, safe and client focused care. * Providing specialist nursing or allied health advice, support, and
expertise. * Promoting change that improves the experience of consumers affected
by acute or enduring severe mental illness, as well as that of their
families and whānau. * Ensuring that quality systems are in place within and across Wāhi
Oranga services to enhance care delivery. * Challenging and identify barriers to service effectiveness and
efficiency, and work with key stakeholders to implement changes that
deliver more effective and timely care interventions. * Involving running education sessions for our Tangata to
Whaiora in the afternoons and supporting the health care assistants and
allied health care assistants with running activities as part of the ward

You will be a senior registered nurse, social
worker, or occupational therapist with acute mental health and addictions
clinical experience, or you will possess the required qualities and experience
to be supported into this role.
You will:
- Be a key member of the Wāhi Oranga leadership team and will make a
real difference in the level of care provided to mental health consumers. * Held in high regard by your peers and will lead contemporary and
professional practice. * Be passionate about equity and service delivery and will be
committed to ongoing professional development and further enhancing the
capacity of your team. Hours of work are usually 1100 until 1900 Monday to
Friday. However, there may be a need to cover an alternative senior nurse - s duty
due to sickness or annual leave between the hours off 0600 and 1800. This would
be by arrangement with the charge nurse manager.
