WebSphere App Server and WAS Liberty administration for z/OS
Key Responsibilities:
Web Sphere Application Server Administration: Manage and configure Web Sphere Application Server (WAS) and WAS Liberty environments on z/OS, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.
Environment Management: Build and manage multiple WAS and Liberty profiles and environments, ensuring high availability and scalability of applications.
Performance Tuning: Analyze and optimize Web Sphere environments to ensure optimal performance, memory utilization, and transaction throughput.
Middleware Integration: Work closely with teams to ensure smooth integration of Web Sphere with other middleware such as DB2, MQ, and other enterprise systems.
Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Use tools like IBM Tivoli Performance Viewer (TPV), IBM Monitoring, and other third-party tools to monitor application servers, detect performance issues, and troubleshoot production issues in Web Sphere environments.
Security Management: Implement security configurations and policies for WAS and Liberty profiles, including SSL certificates, authentication, and authorization mechanisms.
Automation & Scripting: Develop automation scripts (Jython, JACL, REXX, etc.) to streamline administrative tasks such as deployments, backups, and environment monitoring.
Application Deployment: Manage application deployments to Web Sphere environments, working with development teams to ensure smooth deployments, patches, and updates.
Patching & Upgrades: Apply patches, updates, and upgrades to Web Sphere Application Server and WAS Liberty environments to ensure systems are up-to-date and secure.
Backup & Recovery: Develop and implement backup and recovery procedures for Web Sphere environments, ensuring minimal downtime in case of failures.
Problem Resolution: Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues within WAS and Liberty environments, collaborating with application developers, infrastructure teams, and external vendors as necessary.
Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of WAS and Liberty configurations, environments, processes, and troubleshooting guides.
Technical Skills:
Expertise in Web Sphere Application Server (traditional and Liberty) on z/OS.
Strong knowledge of z/OS, USS (Unix System Services), JCL, and RACF.
Familiarity with application servers’ JVM tuning, connection pool management, and thread management.
Experience with integration between WAS/WAS Liberty and DB2, MQ, or other middleware on z/OS.
Scripting proficiency (e.g., Jython, JACL, Shell, REXX) for automation.
Proficiency in monitoring and troubleshooting using tools like IBM Tivoli Performance Viewer (TPV), OMEGAMON, or similar.
Experience managing SSL certificates, TLS configurations, and security policies in Web Sphere environments.
Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience administering Web Sphere Application Server and WAS Liberty on z/OS.
