The role involves developing programs and interventions to support student well-being, addressing personal and social issues, and fostering a positive and inclusive school environment. Key Responsibilities:
Individual Counseling:
Provide one-on-one counseling sessions to students dealing with academic, emotional, or social issues.
Assist students in setting and achieving academic and career goals.
Offer support and guidance to students experiencing personal challenges or mental health concerns.
Group Counseling and Workshops:
Conduct group counseling sessions on topics such as stress management, peer relationships, and study skills.
Organize and lead workshops on topics relevant to student development and well-being.
Academic Support:
Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to identify students who may need additional support.
Assist students with academic planning and course selection.
Monitor students' academic progress and intervene when necessary to address issues impacting their performance.
Crisis Intervention:
Provide immediate support and intervention in crisis situations, such as instances of bullying, family issues, or mental health emergencies.
Develop and implement crisis management plans in collaboration with school staff and external agencies.
Program Development:
Design and implement programs to address common issues such as substance abuse, bullying prevention, and social skills development.
Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs and make improvements as needed.
Collaboration and Advocacy:
Work closely with teachers, parents, and administrators to advocate for students' needs and ensure a supportive learning environment.
Facilitate communication between students and their families to address concerns and support student success.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, interventions, and student progress.
Prepare reports and documentation for school administration and external agencies as required.
Professional Development:
Stay current with best practices, trends, and research in student counseling and mental health.
Attend professional development workshops and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
Valid state certification or licensure as a school counselor or counselor (if applicable).
Previous experience in a counseling role, preferably within an educational setting.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and school staff.
Demonstrated understanding of child and adolescent development, mental health issues, and academic planning.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with crisis intervention and management.
Knowledge of current educational trends and practices.
Ability to create and implement effective counseling programs and workshops.
