Prepare and manage all necessary import and export documentation, including invoices, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and customs declarations.
Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, tariffs, and import/export laws.
Stay up-to-date with changes in customs regulations and trade agreements.
2. Import and Export Planning:
Develop and implement import and export strategies to optimize the company's global trade operations.
Coordinate shipments, track shipments, and manage delivery schedules to meet customer demands.
3. Logistics and Shipping:
Collaborate with shipping companies, freight forwarders, and customs brokers to ensure smooth transportation and clearance of goods.
Negotiate shipping contracts, rates, and terms to minimize transportation costs.
4. Tariff Classification and Valuation:
Accurately classify products according to the Harmonized System (HS) codes.
Determine the valuation of goods for customs purposes.
5. Cost Management:
Monitor import and export costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
Negotiate with suppliers and carriers to obtain favorable terms and pricing.
6. Risk Management:
Assess and mitigate risks associated with international trade, such as currency fluctuations, trade disputes, and political instability.
Maintain insurance coverage for cargo and shipments.
7. Record Keeping and Reporting:
Maintain detailed records of import and export transactions.
Generate reports for management and government agencies, as required.
8. Customer Service:
Provide support and assistance to customers and vendors in addressing inquiries, order status, and delivery schedules.
Resolve any issues or discrepancies related to shipments.
9. Trade Compliance Audits:
Conduct regular internal audits to ensure compliance with import and export regulations.
Implement corrective actions as necessary.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as international business, supply chain management, or logistics.
Knowledge of international trade laws and regulations, including customs procedures and tariffs.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Proficiency in using trade-related software and tools.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Understanding of international markets and cultural differences.
Certification or training in customs and trade compliance is a plus.
