Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Content Designer working on IBM Storage offerings, you’ll work with our interdisciplinary design teams, product management, and development stakeholders to make a meaningful impact on how our users use our products. Design and develop technical product content, both inside and outside of the user interface (UI), with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and user experience.
- You’ll drive a cohesive end-to-end technical content experience that moves users through every phase of their product journey and drives their actions.
- You’ll be evaluating content requests and working with stakeholders, such as product managers, engineering leads, marketing, and design to understand the business problem, goals, and desired outcomes.
- You’ll help simplify technically complex concepts and details from multiple sources into consumable content that drives user actions.
- You’ll work collaboratively with other designers to ensure clear, simple, consistent, and accessible content that delivers a delightful user experience.
- You’ll research and design content based on user scenarios by understanding personas, delivering content for design iterations, developing and clarifying UI terms, actively contributing to design reviews, and conducting user testing/research to validate content.
- Ability to work within a cross-functional team and handle multiple projects. A design thinking practitioner and experience with agile methodologies.
- You’ll be working with a highly motivated and skilled design team passionate about the outcomes they design and deliver to our users.
- You’ll own the end-to-end authoring process: design, development, editing, production, translation, and life cycle management.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- At least 5 years of professional writing experience in enterprise software technologies.
- Bachelor’s Degree in writing, English, communication, information design, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Foundational understanding of UX design and research.
- Excellent listening, written, and verbal communication skills, curating and editing content for accuracy, storytelling, and documentation skills.
- Proven experience simplifying complex content for users.
- A portfolio of previous work must be presented with a focus on delivering a great content experience.
- Knowledge of markup languages (such as DITA XML, Markdown, HTML), authoring tools (Oxygen), and experience with Content Management Systems is a plus.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Master’s Degree in writing, English, communication, information design, user experience, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience writing content for complex systems.
