Blood Bank Technician
Job Description:
Qualification : DMLT/MLT
Experience : 0 to 5 years
Job Responsibilities:
1. accurate grouping, cross matching and issuing of blood components followed by accurate documentation.
2. Responsible to take over any pending work, messages, any cases requiring special attention from previous duty technician.
3. Responsible for quality checking of anti sera and pooled cells and checking the temperature of all equipment's.
4. Responsible individually deal with the samples for cross matching by making sure of the blood group, allotting appropriate blood units and performing the cross matching.
5. In case of emergency, restrict the test to just grouping, spin cross match and inform the respective doctors of the result.
6. If any of the tests is positive, the blood bag is isolated, marked as TBR and is kept in quarantine till further tests are conducted. If the repeat tests are also positive, then the blood is immediately discarded or the bag is returned to the main stock.
7. Responsible to check the patient details for requests from various wards and then issue the blood with the compatibility certificate after entering the details in issue register.
8. Responsible to counsel and educate patient attenders and explain the procedure of blood donation.
9. Responsible to ensure that the results are cross checked, entered in register, typed, doublechecked by another colleague and dispatched.
10 Responsible to ensure that reports are dispatched to voluntary donors with voluntary donor cards.
11.Responsible to supervise the defrosting and cleaning of refrigerators and freezers done at least once in a month.
Any other jobs assigned by superior due to exigencies of work.
