We are now looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join our Antennas and Circuits team for a fixed-term three-year contract starting in January 2025!

VTT started a Postdoc programme in 2023 to develop new ways to support scientific excellence and to strengthen career paths from universities to VTT. We want to provide development opportunities for recent university Ph Ds in applied research and industry collaboration. As a Postdoctoral Researcher at VTT, you are able to make an impact on our customers and society. Our researchers work closely together with industry, often in interdisciplinary research groups. VTT has excellent research infrastructure and internal services to support your research work.
With a strong background in integrated circuit design in analog/RFIC domain, as a postdoctoral researcher at VTT, you will have an essential role of developing and carrying research in RFIC design. You identify and solve problems independently and creatively, while working closely and flexibly with a team of experts. You focus on the design but also integrating the IC in part of a larger system and contribute to the packaging aspects of the RFIC and MMICs.
Our team develops components and sub-systems for applications ranging from cryogenically cooled quantum computing readout and control circuits to large THz phased-array antennas for 6G wireless systems. We cover all abstraction levels of IC design and characterization from component level to system level using silicon (CMOS and Si Ge Bi CMOS) and III-V (In P, Ga As and Ga N) technologies. The developments are made in close collaboration with our industrial, research institute and academic partners.

Your responsibilities as a Postdoctoral Researcher:

• Design of RFIC/MMIC circuits
• Contribute to the system specifications for the application in hand
• Communicating and solving the problems in tight collaboration with others at VTT
• Supervising or tutoring junior team members, contributing to new project preparation and proposal work

Who we are looking for:

• You have recently (max 5 years ago) gained your doctoral degree in integrated circuit design
• You have experience in designing RFICs using silicon technologies (CMOS and/or Si Ge Bi CMOS)
• You have hands-on experience of testing RFICs in lab
• Excellent communications skills in English are required

This postdoc position is part of Postdoctoral Programme for Research Institutes. The Programme has been granted 40 million euros in funding based on the Finnish government's multi-annual research and development (R&D) funding plan. This funding enables recruitment of 85 Ph D-level experts to 12 Finnish government research institutes between 2025 and 2028. The aim of the Programme is to strengthen RDI competence in areas important to society and business. Postdoctoral researcher will conduct goal-oriented high-level research at the interface between the academic community, industry and administration.
