SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Summary:
The Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Coordinator will be responsible for applying a Monitoring & Evaluation framework to the sustainability operations of Barry Callebaut in Ecuador. The M&E Coordinator will support the Sustainability team in all data collection, analysis and learning activities to help ensure accountability and efficiency from start to finish for all programs and projects.
The M&E Coordinator will work closely with the Sustainability team to support capacity building of the field teams and facilitate the collection of quality data under the supervision of the Sustainability Manager. S/he may be assigned to focus on Data analysis and support on project progress reporting, program impact evaluation and learnings. S/he will assist the Sustainability Manager in preparing Monthly/Quarterly/Annual reports on project progress and will monitor the project activities on a regular basis. Additionally, s/he will lead the data organization, collection and submission for the annual audits of the sustainability programme.
The M&E Coordinator will collaborate closely with the global M&E team of Barry Callebaut, as well as with local suppliers and sourcing partners of Barry Callebaut.
Essential Functions:
- Support the development and roll out of Monitoring and Evaluation Frameworks, guidelines, plans or tools to guide quality Monitoring and Evaluation in the projects.
- Regularly review Monitoring and Evaluation plans, tools and other documents such as results matrices, reporting templates etc., as may be necessary in coordination with relevant colleagues or partners.
- Prepare periodic internal reports by providing Monitoring and Evaluation data and content, ensuring that results are aligned to indicators outlined in results matrices and that reports are results based to improve quality of reporting.
- Provide feedback to project managers for programme revisions and amendments based on monitoring or evaluation findings.
- Contribute towards the strengthening and deepening of monitoring and evaluation functions in Sustainability through regular monitoring checks of projects.
- Provide capacity building on Monitoring and Evaluation to field staff including through training, mentorship, coaching and sharing of information.
- Assist with materials development in the form of programme theory and logic models, monitoring and evaluation data collection instruments, training manuals and presentations.
- Play a lead role in projects involving other contracted evaluators and researchers.
- Ensure good quality and timely submission of data whenever required, such as for example during annual audits.
- Work closely with field teams and partners to roll out a suitable digital traceability programme, including through training, coaching and controlling.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Work Experience:
- Degree in Development Studies, Economics, Engineering, Computer science, Statistics, Business Administration, Agri-business or other related social sciences.
- Professional proficiency in English and Spanish.
- Other related specializations such as in Project Management, Statistics, or Mathematics are an advantage.
- Additional certifications on data analytics are an advantage (e.g. data analysis softwares, programming, GIS-based mapping, or others).
- 3+ years of professional experience, with at least 1 year of experience in a previous Monitoring & Evaluation or data management role, such as but not limited to in the cocoa sector, international development sector or public sector.
- Knowledge of and ability to design monitoring and evaluation instruments (interview schedules, questionnaires, data analysis tools, etc.)
- Demonstrated knowledge of monitoring and evaluation principles and methods
- Knowledge of and ability to develop logic models and indicators
- Good knowledge in certification schemes and sustainability standard
- Experience in cocoa production, sourcing and processing is highly desirable
- Experience in agri-environment issues, sustainability and farmer livelihood highly desirable
Additional Requirements:
- Strong analytical and critical skills to ensure excellence in data and consistency in KPI reporting
- Excellent communication skills – verbal and written to include report writing
- Proficiency in MS Office application – Word, Power Point and Excel to an excellent standard.
- Knowledge in Data analysis software such as python, Google Data studio or Microsoft Power Bi will be an added advantage
- Good understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods
- Knowledge of digital mapping software such as Arc GIS, QGIS or Google Earth is an advantage
- The role is based in Durán-Samborondón, Ecuador, with up to 20% travel in-country to project areas in the main cocoa-growing regions.
- Partial home office is possible.
