Postdoc in Communication, Ontological Security and Port Digitalization
At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Sustainability and Planning, a position as Postdoc in Communication, Ontological Security, and Port Digitalization is open for appointment from 01.01.2025 – 31.10.2026 or soon hereafter. The position is available for a period of 22 months. The department was established in 1975. Today, we are located in two beautiful harbour-front locations in both Aalborg and Copenhagen. We have more than 250 employees and approximately 1,200 students across the two cities. Our research and study programmes are rooted in sustainability and the green transition. This means we conduct research in areas such as the circular economy, technology, urban, energy, and environmental planning, as well as sustainable transition and design. Sustainability is central to our work in environmental assessment and marine management. In surveying and land use, sustainability is reflected in our efforts in nature restoration and climate adaptation. As society continues to develop digitally, we also focus on responsible technology development, addressing real-life challenges. Our problem-oriented approach and close collaboration with businesses and public organisations form the foundation of all our study programmes. Additionally, our engineering programmes are among the best in Europe. The postdoc will be anchored in the Centre of Blue Governance research group located at Aalborg University, CREATE campus. The Centre of Blue Governance is a multidisciplinary group of researchers focusing on the interactions between people and the sea. The postdoc position is part of the SAIL project, which addresses theoretical and empirical questions about the integration of artificial intelligence(AI)-based decision support systems in critical, real-time, physical contexts. We will use case studies from Denmark and the Netherlands to study technology readiness and the organizational journey of ports to adopt AI. Committed to interdisciplinary research, SAIL will develop frontier approaches to advance the strategic use of AI in dynamic decision-making contexts.
The position involves four tasks: 1) in-depth interviews with port managers in Denmark and the Netherlands to compare technology readiness and internal and external organizational communication on digital transformations, 2) co-develop a novel framework that integrates knowledge about ontological security, human-computer interaction, and internal and external organizational communication on digital transformations, 3) critical reading of technology industry outlooks and other strategies to illuminate convergent and divergent views on the prospect of AI in different-size port industries, and 4) co-organize an interdisciplinary scholarship where we will invite scholars from the Computer Sciences and Social Sciences.
The research questions, methodology, and project plan for the postdoc will be developed in conversation with Associate Professor Carolijn van Noort. During parts of the project, the postdoc will also be supported by a research assistant.

Qualification requirements:
Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at Ph D–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
