Jobbeskrivelse
The candidate will contribute to a project aimed at increasing the reuse of timber in construction by non-destructive testing (NDT) methods to assess the strength of reclaimed wood. This involves:
- Conducting experimental studies on reclaimed timber beams to gather data for strength model development based on NDT
- Utilizing machine learning to calibrate models that predict the strength of reused timber based on non-destructive test results
- Applying non-destructive test methods relevant for timber, such as density measurement, fiber scanning, and acoustic response testing
- Validating models established using machine learning and non-destructive test methods using experimental data, quantifying the model uncertainty and investigating the influence on verification of reliability by the partial factor method
- Investigating and optimizing the use of reclaimed prefabricated timber components with respect to the available wood dimensions. Further, optimizing engineered wood products based on reclaimed timber
The position is financed by the research project "Wood Vita".
Qualification requirements
Structural Engineering:
A background in structural engineering is essential. Candidates must have expertise in structural analysis and design, including Finite Element Method (FEM) calculations for assessing the structural integrity and safety of timber structures.
Machine Learning:
Proficiency, or a strong interest in developing such skills, in machine learning models for materials science and structural engineering applications.
Timber Engineering:
Understanding of timber properties, structural behavior of wooden constructions.
You may obtain further information from Associate Professor Dario Parigi, Department of the Built Environment (BUILD), phone: +45 9940 7234, email: dpa@build.aau.dk, concerning the scientific aspects of the stipend.
Ph D stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. Ph D stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a Ph D student at the Doctoral School of Engineering and Science in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the Ph D Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the Ph D student shall be assessed at regular points in time.
Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications, the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not.
For further information about stipends and salary as well as practical issues concerning the application procedure, please contact Ms. Annemarie Davidsen, the Doctoral School at the Faculty of Engineering and Science, email: ada@adm.aau.dk.
