The Department of Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources is looking to fill a Timber Administration Lead position.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime and work out of town for an extended period when required.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to remote locations throughout the Province of Manitoba via truck and fixed wing aircraft.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, which may require moderate physical effort (e.g. Carry boxes up to 40lbs).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent from other provinces without any restrictions.
Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Post Secondary education in forestry, environmental science or natural resource management. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience working with The Forest Act and Regulations or other Manitoba natural resource legislation and policies.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis.
  • Experience with project management and project plans, including the identification and assignment of tasks, timeline estimation, managing team execution, and project reporting.
  • Strong verbal communications skills.
  • Experience working with Microsoft office programs including (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook) or equivalent software applications.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and decision making skills.
  • Experience providing training, mentoring and coaching to internal staff and external industry and stakeholders.
  • Strong written communications skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Desired:
  • Experience with GIS applications such Arc GIS ESRI, or other similar software.
  • Experience with timber tracking, administration, pricing, and wood measurement (scaling).

Duties:
The Timber Administration Lead is responsible for leading the administration and maintenance of Manitoba’s stumpage system, administering and reviewing Manitoba’s Timber Quota Program, calculating Crown timber dues, allocating timber harvest volumes and coordinating wood tracking within the timber administration system. This position ensures the proper allocation of timber sales and timber permits, reporting of harvest volumes, payment of dues and charges and application of penalties. The incumbent contributes to revenue and cash flow documents, conducts research, and participates in discussions with various stakeholders. The Timber Administration Lead is also responsible for the ongoing development, implementation and maintenance of Manitoba’s timber administration system.
