Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Experience leading a team of auditors in performing complex finaincial statement audits.
  • Strong leadership skills to coach and mentor financial statement audit staff
  • Superior analytical skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems and form logical conclusions
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to independently manage multiple priorities within timelines and scope both on an individual basis and for a team
  • Strong written communication skills to effectively communicate audit findings to a variety of stakeholders
  • Strong verbal communication skills including the ability to actively listen and present messages concisely and succinctly
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work well both within a team setting and with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Extensive experience applying accounting principles and Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS) in conducting financial statement audits with progressively increasing responsibility
  • Ability to work independently, exercise initiative, and escalate issues appropriately.

Duties:
Reporting directly to the Deputy Auditor General, the Principal is responsible for overseeing the work on multiple financial statement audits. This includes planning audits, gathering audit evidence, supervising staff, report audit findings, and manage their budgets. The Principal is also responsible for ensuring that they are current in their knowledge and application of the Office’s financial statement audit methodology and ever-changing auditing and accounting standards and that their staff follow the correct practices and procedures.

Audits in the financial statement division are designed to enable us to issue an audit opinion on whether the financial statements or financial information is in accordance with an appropriate accounting or compliance framework. Our audits are conducted using Canadian auditing standards.
