Technology and Solutions Manager - Information Technology Systems and Services
UPEI requires an experienced Technology & Solutions Manager to support the deployment and operationalization of program specific technological infrastructure and applications. Initially working as part of the Faculty of Medicine Technology Integration Team, the Manager works directly with other IT professionals, departmental staff, and program leaders in the adoption and adaptation of relevant standards and procedures for IT infrastructure and delivery of services supporting students, faculty, and staff.
In collaboration with UPEI ITSS, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador (Memorial) HSIMS and Enterprise IT, and provincial partners (Health PEI and Province of PEI IT Shared Services), the Manager supports and maintains the integration of solutions and connectivity providing students and faculty with intuitive, secure access to required educational resources. This role requires an engaging, creative, forward-thinking team player who is eager to work with new technology and help define how that technology is used to support medical education now and into the future. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of the technology systems that support the Faculty of Medicine’s and UPEI’s strategic goals
Manage the activities of IT staff, including:
Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and facilitate success of the team members
Conduct one-on-one meetings with and conduct performance reviews for staff
Collaborate with the IT Service Desk and IT Support teams, and other departments to prioritize and support their IT Infrastructure requirements
Analyze and resolve system/technology issues and needs
Contribute to the maintenance of an inventory of all digital assets, including identifying asset owners and custodians, and appropriate diagrams and documentation of all critical components
Hold team accountable for excellence and timeliness in service delivery
Continuously improve effectiveness, efficiency, and customer satisfaction for customers by determining and evaluating key performance indicators (KPI) and metrics
Champion continuous improvement for people, process, and technology
Establish and maintain strong working relationships with UPEI, Memorial, and Provincial stakeholders
Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations when handling information within applications and within the UPEI infrastructure
Create procedural documentation and technology-based communications for the stakeholder community
Assist in change management initiatives related to system upgrades or process changes
Other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor degree in the field of Computer Science, Information Science, Management Information Systems, or Business Administration
Seven years of experience with emphasis on IT Infrastructure and/or application support and implementation or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience is required
Demonstrable leadership experience
Experience in managing a staff of 2 to 5 individuals as well as operational and capital budgets
IT Network administration (including Wireless systems), with proven experience in a Cisco environment (experience with Cisco Software Defined Networking would be considered an asset)
Proven knowledge of hosted and on-premise enterprise application ERP, reporting and infrastructure technologies
Experience in leading organizational change management
Demonstrable experience handling highly confidential information
Experience working at a post-secondary educational institution would be considered an asset
Strong organizational skills coupled with the ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and excel in a fast-paced environment characterized by changing priorities
Excellent written and oral communications skills
Ability to effectively interact and liaise with diverse groups
Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities
Ability to engage in active listening translating client needs into technological deliverables
Demonstrated ability to thrive in and contribute to an integrated and collaborative team environment and to apply a positive team approach to working with colleagues
Intermittent work outside the normal operating hours of the Department may be required.
Some exposure to disagreeable conditions typical of a position exposed to stress and pressure associated with projects and organizational change.
Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products as required
TERM: As soon as possible until April 30, 2026. Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding and departmental requirements.
