Job Summary
The Team
The Family and Cultural Connections Team is dedicated to supporting children, youth, and families in staying connected to their culture, with a strong focus on Indigenous communities. Led by a Team Leader, this close-knit group includes 4 Out of Care workers, 2 Guardianship workers, and 1 Family Finder. With over 5 years of experience in the North Island, the team collaborates with Child Protection, Child and Youth with Support Needs, and Resource Workers to ensure the cultural needs and family connections of children and youth are met. They’re passionate about learning and growing together to offer culturally responsive support.

The Role
As a Roots Practitioner you’ll work closely with child protection teams, Indigenous Nations, and families to gather key voices and facilitate decision-making Circles that focus on the safety and well-being of children and youth. Your work ensures that Indigenous families and Nations are heard, and their cultural and family connections are honored in the planning process. This is a meaningful opportunity to collaborate with Nations, Elders, and community agencies to strengthen cultural identity and family ties for the children we support.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Diploma or higher in Health/Human Service or related field plus related experience; Or
  • Certificate in Health/Human Service or related field plus 2 years related experience; Or
  • Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
Related Experience must include:
  • Experience working with Indigenous families and communities.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with Indigenous children and youth in care.
  • Minimum 3 years experience developing and/or facilitating programs/events that promote cultural understanding and or cultural teachings and awareness.
  • Applicants who have experience working with Indigenous communities with demonstrated links to those communities.
  • Applicants who have Indigenous heritage (First Nations, Metis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established.
