Job Summary

The Team:
At the Value-added Sector Strategies Branch (VASS) within the Forest Sector Transformation Unit (FST), you’ll be joining a small, collaborative team that works closely with others across the Ministry to drive meaningful change. VASS, a new team established in February, currently has two members, with plans to double its size. You will work alongside the Director and another Land and Resource Specialist to develop strategies that support communities, First Nations, and industry through the forest sector's ongoing transition. The team values communication, collaboration, and personal development, fostering an environment of mutual support.

The Role:
As a Land and Resource Specialist for the Coast Area, your primary responsibilities will be understanding local fibre flow dynamics and the diverse forest product manufacturers in the area, while developing strategies and policy ideas to support communities, First Nations, and industry through the ongoing forest sector transition. You will have the opportunity to engage directly with industry, stakeholders, and First Nations, listening to their needs and helping shape solutions that impact the future of BC's forest industry. This transformational work offers a unique chance to contribute creative ideas to a sector that is vital to both the economy and communities across the province. Check out the innovative work being done here: Made in British Columbia.

Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) or an equivalent combination of education/training, plus three (3) or more years’ experience working in a natural resource discipline.
  • Training and/or experience in project management.
  • Significant experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project or regional initiative.
  • Experience in managing project teams.
  • Experience managing relationships with senior level partners and stakeholders.
  • Experience or knowledge in implementing provincial and regional First Nations consultation procedures.
  • Experience and knowledge of conflict and dispute resolution principles and practices.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
