PT - Program Coordinator - Whitehorse

ROLE PURPOSE
This position will plan, develop, implement, and oversee the day-to-day operation of the Connective’s Program(s) as well as supervise the program staff.

LOCATION
Whitehorse, Yukon.

STATUS AND CLASSIFICATION
Unionized. Open to applicants of all genders.

HOURS

25 hours a week- Thursday - Friday 0700-1930

This is a temporary position until December 2024.

REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
  • Reports and is accountable to the Program Manager, Senior Manager or their designate
  • Supervises a team of staff, volunteers and oversees practicum placements
  • Facilitates the delivery of programs and initiatives to adults, and their families and loved ones, relating to effective intervention and community reintegration
  • Liaises with Connective Support Society staff to support the agency’s initiatives and to deliver person-centred services in keeping with our philosophy
  • Liaises with other community and government agencies in the area
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Plans and develops the program/s in consultation with the Program Manager, Senior Manager or their designate. Plans and implements program activities and special events.
  • Formulates program/s policies and procedures and evaluates the program/s in consultation with the Program Manager, Senior Manager or their designate.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operation of the program/s by ensuring that the necessary facilities and equipment are in place, program guidelines and policies are adhered to, and program standards and licensing requirements are met.
  • Provides direct support services as assigned by Program Manager, Senior Manager or their designate.
  • Supervises program/s staff by performing duties such as assigning work, providing feedback on performance, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Participates in the recruitment and selection of program staff by performing duties such as screening applicants, participating on interview panels, and making hiring recommendations.
  • Schedules program staff in accordance to program staffing requirements.
  • Orients, determines the need for and provides training to program staff, volunteers and practicum students.
  • Monitors and authorizes program/s expenditures and maintains financial records in accordance with established procedures.
  • Promotes public awareness of and support for the program by performing duties such as producing promotional materials and attending community events.
  • Liaises with community service providers and other professionals to coordinate service provision, facilitate referrals to the program and represent the organization or program in external events.
  • Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required.
  • Travels to other program sites as deemed necessary
  • On-Call availability as required
  • Performs other related duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Demonstrates initiative, independence and efficiency
  • Follows guidelines as outlined by the Connective Support Society Policies and Procedures
  • Transports self, staff, volunteers and others with a reliable vehicle throughout the areas including, remote locations and correctional facilities as needed
  • Works 40 hours per week with time apportioned through days, evenings and weekends as necessary to meet the program and client needs
  • Receives benefits and work within the conditions as outlined in the collective agreement and the personnel policies
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
  • A university Degree or diploma in a relevant branch of the Behavioural Sciences with an emphasis on Social Work, Sociology, and/or Psychology
  • Direct and extensive experience, a minimum of 3 years, in the delivery of supports and services in a correctional and/or community-based setting, and specifically relating to the criminal justice system or community social services sector
  • Ability to be comfortable interacting with persons who have been involved in the criminal justice system and/or are high risk/high needs/high profile individuals
  • Demonstrated competence in identifying, approaching and securing both short- and long-term funding from appropriate sources
  • knowledge of government and community justice services
  • A strong ability to work with persons in crisis and persons who are disconnected from their support network
  • experience recruiting, screening, training, deploying and supervising volunteers and practicum students
  • Experience in and comfort with public speaking
  • Knowledge of word processing
  • Excellent written, verbal, interviewing and assessment skills.
  • Experience with supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Experience with facilitating, creating and/or running programs.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to successfully complete a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check
  • Ability to successfully pass a reference check
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Personal transportation that is in good repair, insured for business up to $1,000,000 for liability, and which can be used to transport clients
  • Proof of two doses of Covid-19 Vaccine
COMPENSATION
As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $33.75 per hour (plus 4.6% in lieu of statutory holiday pay for Part-Time employees, 10.2% in lieu of vacation pay and benefits for casual employees). The wage will increase with every 2,000 hours worked up to a maximum of $39.30 per hour (plus 4.6% in lieu of statutory holiday pay for Part-Time employees, 10.2% in lieu of vacation pay and benefits for casual employees).

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
