JOB DESCRIPTION – PROJECT ASSISTANT (INTERNSHIP)
POSITION TITLE: Project Assistant (Internship) – 2 Positions
REPORTS TO: Director of Programs
DURATION: Eight (8) weeks
UACWA is a community based not-for-profit association formed in 1996 by a group of women of African descent who live in Nova Scotia. The members of the association are committed to improving the welfare and wellbeing of immigrant women of African descent and their families to ease their settlement as they make their new home in Canada. UACWA provides support to women of African descent and their families through relevant programs and services that meet their family and community needs in health, employment, education, professional development, cross cultural understanding, and self-empowerment.
The Project Intern will assist and support the Project Coordinator and Program/Admin Assistant with executing UACWA’s Health and Wellness Project.
· Assist in planning and implementing health and wellness activities, events, and workshops.
· Help in conducting outreach and promotion of the project to the target population.
· Participate in data collection and evaluation of project outcomes.
· Support the development of health and wellness resources and materials.
· Collaborate with team members to achieve project goals.
· All other duties as assigned within scope of the role.
Qualifications and Requirements
· The applicant must be from indigenous and equity communities who are interested in healthcare careers and have completed grade 11, grade 12 or first-year post-secondary education and is eligible to work in Canada.
· Student must be currently enrolled in a health-related field (e.g., public health, health sciences, nutrition, etc.).
· Interest in community development would be an asset.
· Previous experience in program or project work would be an asset.
· Ability to work effectively as a team member, maintain open communication, and supportive working environment.
· Independent judgement and time management skills.
· Effective interpersonal, and organization skills, high level of computer literacy, and communication skills.
· Proficiency in technology, Microsoft Office, Canva and social media.
· Familiarity with the health needs of the Black community especially immigrant and refugee communities will be an added advantage.
Additional Information:
· Start date November 1, 2024
· Student to be hired full time over an 8-week period (320 hours) OR part-time such that the 320 hours are used over a mutually agreed period of 8 weeks not later than March 31st, 2025
· All 320 hours of work must be completed by March 31st, 2025
· Location: 99 Wyse Rd. Dartmouth
